Overview

A course for ages 14–16 introducing generative and agentic AI through guided exploration and practical activities. Contact the team for current schedule and enrollment information. A general Academy newsletter signup does not reserve a place. Teens meet the AI tools that are changing how the world works and learn to use them with curiosity and good judgment. They see how generative AI makes words, images, music, and code, and how AI agents plan steps, use tools, and get real tasks done. Then they build a small AI helper of their own.

Course details

  • Ages: 14 to 16. No coding experience needed.
  • Format: 4 live classes, one a week, 1 hour each
  • Dates: Mondays, January 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2027
  • Instructor: Yaya Kittles, founder of Bold Minds Academy
  • Course completion benefits: Students who attend all 4 live sessions and complete the final project receive a Bold Minds Academy certificate of completion and a Bold Minds T-shirt.

What they will learn

  • How generative AI creates text, images, music, and code, and where it gets things wrong
  • What makes an AI agent: planning, using tools, and finishing a task in steps
  • Writing clear prompts and checking AI output for accuracy and bias
  • The Black technologists across the diaspora who are building AI today
  • AI ethics: privacy, fairness, and keeping a human in charge

Week by week

  • Week 1. How AI creates. What generative AI is, how it learns, and a hands-on prompt lab.
  • Week 2. Thinking critically about AI. Spotting mistakes and bias, checking sources, privacy, and fairness.
  • Week 3. Meet the agents. How agents plan, use tools, and work through a task, plus mapping out each student’s own helper.
  • Week 4. Build and share. Students build a simple AI helper for a real task at home, at school, or in their community, and present it to the class.

Yaya Kittles is the founder of Bold Minds Academy, a digital school built around the history, culture, and genius of the global African diaspora. Her day job is creative direction. For more than a decade she has led brand, digital experience, and technology work for some of the largest companies in the world. Today that work centers on AI: building AI workflows that help creative teams make better work faster, and leading accessibility so digital experiences work for everyone who uses them. She started Bold Minds so children of the diaspora could see themselves at the center of what they learn. She is the author of the children's book Too Many Rules. Under her leadership, Bold Minds has written more than 100 K-6 lessons and released The African Countries Song, which covers all 54 countries, and Black Factx, a card game with more than 400 facts about Black history and culture. Yaya believes our kids should grow up building AI, not just being shaped by it. The tools are new, but the questions behind them are old ones: who gets to make things, who gets seen, and who gets to decide. She wants every student who leaves her class to know those answers can include them. In the classroom, she teaches the way she works: hands on, project first, and honest about what the tools can and can't do. Her students don't just learn about AI. They learn to question it, direct it, and build with it. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
